Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level, and also boost other stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its stats improve in value. This is the sum of all its leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader you choose and what type of upgrade you choose to do.  item upgrades  is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. The average item level is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the item level. It's a sign of the item's condition and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done using the item level.

On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated using formulas that determine the worth of an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value, and also that sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is typically close to Blizzard's real item level.

However, this is not the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, because the level of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications which are then increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.

Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give items extra damage, special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to distinguish them by adding a name.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items.  Home  can also be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other rerolling methods.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will have at least one stat within that range unless they are an exclusive item or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another aspect that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. As with the base equipment, this will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items as well as the properties generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player a chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in early game runs than later ones because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.

Moreover there are certain items, such as the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be found in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.

The performance of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has an average success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
